Just passing this along:

Last night, I got an invitation from a "friend" to join a  social networking site called Quechup. The problem is, this "friend" was a former co-worker who really didn't even know me. So I checked it out a bit. Googling "quechup" came up with the site as the #1 hit, and countless other pages complaining about how they read your address book and spam everyone in it with invitations ostensibly from you.

I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like the sort of site I would want to be a member of. If you get such an invitation, it probably woule be a good idea to at least check it out before accepting.

No, they do it with gmail and some others.

From what I read, if you're watching, you won't have too much of a problem - they ask for your address book to "check if anyone you know is already registered". But then they send out invitations to everyone, without telling you what they're doing.
