Please help! I'm trying to enter a competition and I don't know the answer to one of the questions: Name two U.S. states that begin with the letter P. Being a mere Brit I just don't know. Any ideas folks?

I'm pretty sure there's just the one, Tony. Is there a punchline to follow?

Maybe someone from the other side of the pond can help. Pennsylvania... great! One more to go. Thank you.

I went to an American High School. I spent 2 years "over the pond" being called "limey" and learning the American meaning of "a wet willie." I don't remember anything about the second state beginning with "P." Wikipedia confirms what my memory tells me.

I say, US citizens, is there a second one? (what, what?)

wet willie? is that where you lick your finger and stick it in someones ear? thats a good one, ive always had a weakness for the classics! Their must be another begining with P though. Wilkipedia must be a bit suspect.

Two states that are common in the US are "puzzlement" and "procrastination".  Maybe they would accept that answer?Tongue out

Thanks Phelps and everyone for trying to help me but I have found the answer. It's PEARL HARBOR. My U.S. geography isn't that great.

That is a pretty accurate description of a wet willie.

Wikipedia may be suspect; or it may be whoever set this quiz you're doing. If the answer turns out to be Puerto Rico (An unincorporated territory of the US with commonwealth status; not a state) then I imagine there'll be peaceful demonstrations from disgruntled Puerto Ricans and furious quiz fans alike. And quite right they'd be, I say.

Nope, just the one. Puerto Rico is still vying for statehood, but at the moment is simply a territory. I think it is pretty cool that you guys know any of our states. You would be hard pressed to find an American that knew the name of any state from any country besides Mexico and Canada.

Pearl Harbor isn't a state - it's in Hawaii! Yell

Pennsylvania - Definitely

Puerto Rico - Not yet, but watch this space.

Probably somebody's thinking Philadelphia or even Pittsburgh, but they aren't states, just cities in Pennsylvania. Hey! Has Pennsylvania a "P" pfixation?

I can name all 50 + the District of Columbia + your presidents in order and by date. I'm sure there are a few yanks who can reel off the Kings and Queens of England. Maybe even a few who can name all Irish presidents to date (clue - there are only 8).

The punchline predicted in post 4 arrives in post 15. Cry

And then it was the peculiar kind of funny, rather than humourous. Frown

there is only one state in the US that starts with the letter "P" and it is "Pennsylvania". Not unless you count "Puerto Rico" which is an "unincorporated organized territory of the US" and not a "State" of the US. it is a trick question.
