Thanks for the info Corrijean.

" Chinatown " with Jack and Faye is one of the Detective films that I quite liked. Of course Peter Falk did a great job in the " Columbo " movies.

And then of course there was this one:

That is one of my all time favorite movies.

Who knows the actor who played the gangster who sliced Jack's nose in Chinatown?

That's Roman Polansky, the director of the movie

Thanks for the recent posts and clips.

Charles Durning has now passed away. He was a bit unusual in that his film  career started when he was well into middle age. I first remember Charles as the bad Police Detective in the movie " The Sting " which also starred Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

Well it is Christmas today and I should watch a movie that fits with the theme. I seem to have misplaced my copy of " Christmas Carol " so I will watch " The Shoes Of The Fisherman " instead. Produced in 1968 this film features Anthony Quinn, Oskar Werner, David Janssen, Vittorio De Sica, Leo McKern, Sir John Gielgud, Sir Laurence Olivier etc ( not a bad Cast ).

How about "A Christmas Story"?

I just watched the 2000 Christmas Carol with this cast (and give it an 80 on criticker).  Nice and spoofy/raspy, but heartfelt too, with very good players:

In addition to which, I found that the lead actress (Angeline Ball) bore a considerable resemblance to legendary B-movie queen Mary Beth Hughes:

Oh, and I also saw the best movie I've seen in a long time (although it only gets 73 on imdb):

Thanks for the new clips and posts.

ChessForceRecon: I'm quite a fan of the movie " Christmas Carol " based on the book by Charles Dickens. I like the black & white version as released in 1951 ( with Alastair Sims as Scrooge ).

AndyClifton: I'm not at all familiar with " Story Of A Love Affair ", looks like a rather interesting film.

Which one? lol  There are dozens...

ChessForceRecon

Just watch Alien.  Not as scary as I expected, but pretty intense.

A little more modern versions of Christmas Carol, which I really liked, were Muppets Christmas Carol (Michael Caine as Scrooge) and the one with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge.

Thanks for the post Javan64. I haven't seen the Muppets version of Christmas Carol but based on the good job done with the TV show I imagine that the film should be quite funny as well.

Sounds good. I'm a big fan of Hitchcock, but I haven't seen that one yet.

ChessForceRecon

My favorite Hitchcock it Rear Window, but The Lady Vanishes is also very good too.

corrijean

Rear Window is one of my favorites, too.
