I have a friend whose excursions in the gastronomic world is not for the meek ones. Add a pronounced taste for thrift, and you have a real master in the art of survival. It was lunchtime. I had food with me from a simple restaurant in the vicinity. My friend had with him a small bag containing something that by all judgment must be a sausage. A sausage that obviously spent a long time near the bottom of the freezer. One of those things we occasionly discover we had forgotten that we had. -Is it possibly pork sausage?, I asked. Because of the shape and color of the sausage this was not an unreasonable guess. "I do not know," he said, "but it has survived in my fridge since 1995."After a treatment in the microwave oven , a juicy fragrance confirmed my fears that it probably died somewhere along the way , and after he had sliced it could be said that it in its previous life was a bratwurst, poor thing.
For this sausage, he had pasta and some old mustard, which excellently complemented the shimmering yellow green color of the aged sausage. I shared my 2 lemon slices so that he would not be completly without vitamins, and asked if he didn´t felt bad after eating such food. -No , there was no danger. But toilet visits could be rapid ... I believe him. Visibly he survived this rough treatment, for he returned the day after in good health.
