tournaments?

seeing as how chess.com is growing by leaps and bounds and its impossible to get to know even a fraction of the populace, would it be possible to start tournaments,or clans, or groups that would at least have a basis in common interest other than chess and would enable people to meet others they wouldn't ordinarily? i dont know about you, but ive been here about two months and have no "friends" and really only know those i have played chess with- and that only from their play. not that i am suggesting we start a social club by any means, but it would be nice to know more people who play chess-especially since there are no chess clubs around me. maybe the above is much ado about nothing,but what do you think?

chess.com already has groups, check out clubs and then go to online groups!!!  I think the tournaments are in the works but live chess has the priority.  :)

Yes, and its particularly helpful to know what members might be in your area in case you ever want to meet up at a coffee shop for a game. Check out our map to see who might be in your area:
