I'd never heard of Vera Duckworth nor of Elizabeth Dawn who portrayed her.

I had to do a search.

Vera Duckworth is dead but Liz Dawn who played her is very much alive. This was put up as a joke, but realised after that anyone not from the UK wouldn't of heard of her. And no, this as nothing to do with the sad loss of Bobby Fischer.

For those who are also confused, about Vera,  Liz Dawn the actress played Vera Duckworth, a housewife in GB's longest running soap, Coronation Street, (its been on air since 1960).  Liz Dawn joined the cast 33 years ago and has been in the shown ever since. The actress Liz Dawn is 69 years old and was a heavy smoker, she now suffers from the Lung disease Emphsema. Which made it very difficult for her to act for more than a few minutes without the use of an oxygen cylinder &  mask  . She has left the show to spend her last years with family.
