if someone says that you are weird do you agree with them? Do you take it as an insult or a compliment? and what is the definitions normal and weird? all they are is two words in society, aren't they?

     Your comments please. Laughing

It's just my opinion but if someone says "you are weird" that is an insult.  it's just not the correct way to speak to someone.   they may not have meant it as an insult but their chose of words is poor.  a big key is when we use the word "you."  much better to say "that's interesting" or "I never thought of that" than "you're weird."

it all depends in what the context is to take it as an insult

I get called fat, and I get called wierd.

Orson Wells was fat and weird.

I'd say i'm doing pretty good.

     You are fat and weird,

Orson Wells was fat and weird,

Therefore you are, and were, Orson Wells.

I could go further and say that you, Orson Wells and this ( http://files.samhart.net/humor/fat-guy-in-jungle-for-aargh.png) guy are all the same person. Kind of like the Trinity.

    "Kind of like the Trinity"--Etienne.

Due to the request of someone else I will try not to make this post very religious, but I'm always curious about what people believe and why they believe it.  I have talked to a lot of ministers and leaders of a lot of differentd faiths and such.  I've gotten even some of the most stubborn of them to admit the contractions in what they believe and there are no defences for these contradictions-a few of them even changed there beliefs after talking to me.  I did not try to change them, nor did I suggest any changes, I only asked questions.

we're all a bit wierd in our own way. Wouldn't the world be a boring place if we were all the same.

Just looked up the definition Weird - 'uncanny, supernatural from the old English 'wyrd' meaning destiny.  colloquial meaning - incomprehensible, strange, queer.  I think today it's regarded more as an insult than anything else suggesting that there is something wrong with a person that lives his/her life differently from the perceived popular, common way.  If playing chess is termed weird by those that play it or those that don't understand the game then god help us all.

Take it as a compliment! Wierd means you are unique and you have something special about you. It makes you better than all these brainwashed clones that seem to populate the world. :)

It may help to remember that the word "weird" derives from the old Saxon word, "wyrd", which roughly translates as "fate". Far from meaning "strange" or "unorthodox", this word is really all about following one's destiny - one's wyrd. So if you say something is "weird" (wyrd), what you're really saying is, "it was meant to be." This is not the same as pre-destiny, where everyone's future is mapped out or "written" somewhere - the Saxons believed in free will. It's more a case of your character and your destiny (or what happens to you in life) as being reflections of each other: "who you are is what you get." As individuals we all have the choice to live out our best possibilities, or fall short of them. We can all blame external forces if we like, or we can take power in our lives and accept responsibility for what occurs. Kinda like chess, really! I mean - whose fault is it when you lose? :o)
