What's your take on the Florida student tasered at a John Kerry speech this week?

Wow. Funny how the 'questions' were not followed by any sort of delay 'answer' period. It was more of a spewing of brash arrogant challenges. After being politely asked to follow the rules of the forum, he continues and forces his will on everyone. Curious to see what kind of reaction he would have received had he shoved a police officer on the street like that. I think they treated him VERY nicely. Anyone ever watch COPS and see the guys get suplexed onto the pavement and have a knee put on their neck? I don't know what kind of cake fantasy exsistence this kid grew up in, but in the real world, he's lucky it was only a taser and not some hot metal!

He does not need turning around. All he needs to learn is to exercise more control.

.....which was ChessDweeb's point.

You're good at proving everyone else's arguments. (Two thumbs up for you!)

Thank you. No hard feelings on either side (or anyone's side), I hope. Take care, and I hope business continues to go well for you, my friend. <handshake>

No hard feelings here as well. Nice open lively discussion. The way it should be. Exposure to new ideas and beliefs is a great education. It makes you dig deep and think over the important things in life. Thank you for feeding my starving brain! lol

Kerry faced tougher questionsand I don't recall any of the swift boater questioners tasered.  What is astonishing to me is the total lack of reaction by the other students some of whom are seen yawning as the guy is being taken down.  People rush home to blog their opinons but sit idly by when free speech is restricted.  I am not advocating any violent response but someone should have spoken up and said this is ridiculous the first one being failed candidate Kerry.

Hey there RANGO88. The first episode of Andrew Mayer wasn't on video. But he rushed the mic and then taunted the police to arrest him and taser him. (Multiple eyewitness accounts and statements from other students that were present) and when the police were going to remove him, Kerry called them off and told Andrew that he would answer his questions. Andrew got back in line with police escorts. That's why in the video they are with him from the beginning. At his second at bat he started his tyraid again. When the cops had enough and moved in you can clearly hear Kerry telling them that it's okay, he would answer the skull and crossbones question. (By the way, they turned his mic off when he started talking about Clinton's Blow Job) At that point, Andrew refused to leave and upon being escorted from the building you can see him physically shoving the police officers. When the police had him pinned to the ground, they told him that they would tase him if he didn't quit resisting. He started kicking his legs wildly and the officer tased him. I think Kerry gave the kid plenty of opportunity. Andrew got what every protestor wants, to be face to face with the opposition and ask open questions. Kerry honored the kid's protest then Andrew went overboard. BTW - I don't even like Kerry but he did step in once and tried to a second time.

It dissapoints me when I find that you are allowed to talk about this but I can't talk about a pending Russian invasion of the U.S.

Please do prey tell. If there's something you know then feel free to tell me all about it. But if you'd like the proper forum it falls under "FICTION".

"Secondly, Etienne, your approach to classify conformist and non conformist people are astounding, but somehow I'll give it to you, I most probably do conform to just another group, all said, our group do not like being called sheep."

As they are priding themselves in being "unique" or "marginal" or even "rebel", but the fact is that probably most of them are indeed sheeps to a group, it doesn't hav anything to do with which or what group (even if the group doesn't like being called sheep) it has to do with the mindset which the individual is toward the group.

"Then, I suppose freedom of speech is granted only if the speaker are not "ranting" or not getting "irrespectuous"  or getting "exited"???"

Come on, you take the whole point of my post and what is included in the rest of my post, take only the precise words of the example (which itself was not important for the point, but was what happened in the video). My point is that freedom of spech depends on the SITUATIONS, it's in the laws. For example you cannot promote racism in public, however in PRIVATE you can talk about whatever you want. I'll give another example I took in another topic. If I start talking loud about useless stuff during the chess world championship as the players are playing. Does my freedom of speech applies?

The fact is that particular rules can cancel freedom of speech, and that freedom of speech, in the end, is only in your house or in private and everywhere else it is limited by particular rules or by what society decides to accept or not. What I am telling here is pure common sense but, I have no idea what you do not understand...

"And lastly Etienne I'll probably drag you out and shut you up at any one of the parties I host, let alone a funeral of someone close to me. At a public gathering with community issues at stake I'll let you rant and rave until your breath is up and then we can start discussing the issues that you are so passionate about. Open and honest conversation are not done only in a I'm-sorry-I'm-alive tone of voice."

And what is different here than what happened? They dragged him out, and if he hadn't resisted (which was the cause of the arrest, just lke if you drag me out and I hit you) he could have told what he had to say to anyone who wanted to hear it outside.

And what if I resist you dragging me out? You are going to call the police? Or "censor me" with brutality? A fist instead of a taser?

ok, this is just getting silly. 2012 is only an important date because it's when Britain are going to clean up at the glorious London Olympics. Especially in the rowing. Why isn't chess an Olympic sport for that matter??

ok chess is a board game not a sport i mean gosh.

here's an interesting question: why does this forum topic and others draw so much attention when somebody's interesting chess game or question goes unanswered in the forums?

i guess my next website will be "politicsconspiracydebate.com" :)

Probably because a politician was involved. If it had been an athlete, there would be no 'outrage', and this story would have never made it past SportsCenter. (IMHO, of course.)

BTW, I agree that PoliticsConspiracyDebate.com would be a hit.  Laughing

That's a great point Erik! I posted what is one of my best chess games ever and it's had 2 comments posted to it. I'm not saying that I'm some sort of Kasparov genius, or that I want everyone's praise, but let us remember that this is Chess.com, not crazysensationalnews.com. I am glad to everyone who DID look at my game, and I hope you enjoyed the chess fun inside the side variations. Perhaps a side forum site could be linked to this site, and narrow chess.com to chess related forums. Keep up the great work, this site is definitely appreciated by a chess junky like me.

I think that I contribute quite a bit to the chess related forums on this site. And since I find this to be a great source of socialization along with my favorite passtime the two go well together. I comment on others games, post blogs contribute articles and discuss chess related topics all the time. I get burned out on chess chess chess all the time and like one site to go for all of my online activity and discussions. This is very hard for me to understand why there can't be forums for free for all open discussions. For people like me that spend several hours a day at this site I can't just do chess 100% of the time, there has to be other outlets.

Naturally, I cannot say for certain, but the lack of response could indicate that they find playing chess entertaining but discussing it, boring.

Etienne, by making statements like this your are just fueling my new found antagonism for you. This discussion were about fundamental rights that according to some have been violated. If you don't understand that, I seriously doubt that YOU understand much of the discussion.

If we had been debating about abusive use of thetaser then you could have been right, butyou've been arguing about an enforced law that happens on a regular basis in ANY country, so I fail to see how this was about the rights and wrongs of the United States.

I'm taking this thread off my "track forum topic" so don't think I'm rude if you put something in here and I don't respond.

Thanks!

Mike
