Where shall I go for my 50th birthday.

Next December 29 I will be 50. I'd be happy spending a week in my favourite pub, but my family seem keen on taking me somewhere "special" (if I pay, of course). Anyone got any ideas?

Now that sounds good. Can I send my wife and daughters shopping?

Are you sure you can afford that?

No, I can't afford it. I'm working on the principle that 2012 is our last year on Earth. If it isn't all over by December 29, then there's only two days left - and I'll have the last laugh over the credit card companies.

Nah, the world isn't going to end in Dec. 2012, just the Mayan calendar...so it looks like those evil credit card companies will still have the last laugh!

Nick, go to Ireland, pubs a plenty there.  Nice shopping for wife and daughters.  It should make you feel right at home.....

Are there any limitations on distance or activities? Hiking/biking and such in?

Both my daughters were conceived (ahead of schedule) in Ireland. Not sure I should go there again...

I want to go to NZ (though not to jump off anything). However, if I can afford to go that far for my 50th, which is just before New Year, I think I'd head for Sydney.

Iceland sounds interesting. I could take my family to the site of the 1972 Fischer triumph...

Belgium. I want to visit Bruge. Where else?

The US. Only ever been to Disney. Would like to go. Where would be good that time of year?
