Who, out of everyone in the world, do you admire most?

     I happen to admire Lieutenant Zvika Greengold, a an Israeli IDF tank commander who fought during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. He was unattatched to any unit and was helping the wounded until Centurion MBTs became avaliable, one of which he managed to commandeer with the help of reserve crews. According to Wikipedia;

"His tank fought sometimes alone and sometimes in conjunction with other tanks, with Greengold having to change tanks "half a dozen times" as tanks were knocked out. Greengold managed to commandeer stray tanks at times to form a makeshift "task force". During the following battle he identified his tank(s) to command as "Koah Zvika" (English: Zvika Force) to fool the Syrians into thinking they were fighting a tank unit instead of at times his solitary tank. Part of his tactics included holding up a Syrian tank unit by firing and rapidly changing position to allow the Syrians to think they themselves were facing an Israeli tank unit instead of a single tank. Greengold managed to continue fighting the Syrians even though he was wounded and burned during the 20 hours of the action he took part in.

By the way, at the beginning of this battle Israeli forces were outnumbered 9-1. They won that battle

Aristides Souza Mendes..portuguese consul at Bordeaux( France).Disobeying portuguese president orders during II World War, Aristides granted free passes to 30 000 jews allowing them to escape to Portugal safely.Later when portuguese president Salazar knew of what he did, ordered his return to Portugal.Aristides died in the most complete misery, however the jews never forgot him and paid for all his sons education in the best schools.Aristides remains as one of the most undervalued persouns of the last century.

Walt Disney, he gave people around the globe the ability to step outside themselves, away from politics, religions, wars and see the world through the eyes of children. He gave us stories filled with joy and laughter and almost always a happy ending. To bad more of us in this world do not learn from his example!

Was he not the Russian spy who informed the CIA that Russia was bluffing during the Cuban missile crisis? Which in turn caused the US keep it's cool rather than lob a bunch of Nukes at Russia and in return get some lobbed back at them..

If not,,that's who I would pick!

I admire Socrates, because he promoted monotheism against the polytheistic society of the Greeks, and had the courage to die for his beliefs.

Okay,,I now know who Stanislav Petrov was. He prevented a possible Nuke disaster 84.

I still go with the poor fella who was shot soon after he was discovered for having leaked the information to the US. I'll look up his name later unless someone can clue me in.
