Eveybody always says I dont want to do something cuz it always sounds scary. Why are we scared of being scared, and then why does fear affect us so badly when we're expierencing it?

The good news is, at least with chess, it is only a game.  The worst thing that can happen is you make a horrible blunder.  You start again and try to learn from it.  So try not to fear ...Smile

There's nothing to fear, but fear itself.

same reason we love love.

essentially, if a verb and a noun are the same word, but we don't verb the noun, then it doesn't make sense. we hate hate. we envy envy. we loot loot. you get the picture.

I am not sure if we "fear fear" -- isn't it that we dislike fear?  If I am afraid of what will happen if I poke a snake with a stick, I am not scared of my fear of what will happen, I am more unhappy/uncomfortable (e.g. "I don't like being scared of what will happen if I poke the snake with a stick") with my fear of what will happen if I poke a snake with a stick .  How many times have you heard people say "I don't like being scared of the dark".  Right there is dislike of fear, not fear of fear.  You don't hear people say "I am scared of being scared of the dark."  So maybe it is more of a "Why do we dislike fear?"  But then again, to try and answer the original question, perhaps it is more based on the "we fear what we don't know" idea, but just another layer added on: we fear what we don't know, and we fear that fear because it makes us uncomfortable.  Wow, I don't know if any of this holds water, but I feel a WHOLE lot smarter!  Laughing

It's a survival mechanism.  If you didn't 'fear fear' you'd be much less likely to survive long enough to reproduce.

read some biochemistry, anthropology, neurology, psychology, sociology, and look up circular reasoning, if you keep entertaining thoughts that you expect others to answer you realy should stop talking! it's not that you write this garbage that bothers people like me, it's that you actualy think you are clever! and don't give me that i'm only twelve thing, because i'm sure the only time you would admit that your not all grown up is when you need the sympathy...you ostentatious brat!!!!
