Hello people.

I know that we all come from different countries with different cultures and I just want others to learn more about places that they may not have an oppurtunity to visit.  And I have always thought that knowledge, of any sort, will make one more knowing in their lives.  So I would love for people to give a short description of their city or counrty along with customs, sports, religion, really anything.  I appreciate those who participate and hope that others will become more wordly.

East Berlin, Pennsylvania (right near Gettysburg. . .)

This is Pennsylvanian Dutch country. Here, nearly everyone has a majority of german blood in their veins (I happen to be in the minority. . .). Dutch cooking is an art that involves adding a cup of sugar to improve any recipe (I have heard it has been done to spagetti sauce even). Fausnut day here involves a lot of sugar. . .

Located right next to the Mason-Dixon border the people of Maryland are consindered as next door neighbors and the border is frequently crossed. Being on the border many groups/activities are shared and have members from both sides. In the area, many antique shops can be found. Football is a favorite passtime for many people. Fans of the Steelers are found here. A healthy competition is often present when other favorite teams compete. Field hockey is a favorite sport among many local girls while boys tend to do a mix of activities (when visiting Texas, a group of us were suprised that they had not heard of Field Hockey. . . not widespread?). Carpet Ball one of my favorites and the few that know where to find a table to play on (YFC office in Hanover!) (along with Ultimate Frisbee and Soccer).

The climate generally is temperate throughout the year (medium summers/winters). The area is riddled with mountains covered in greenery and creeks. It is a great place to hike. Otherwise this is a quiet area that supports the country and American way of life.

I'm in Rayton, South Africa, A small town east of Pretoria.

I'm about 10 km away from Cullinan, where the Cullinan diamond, the largest ever was found. It is now part of the crown jewels.

On September 24 another huge diamond was found there, 507 carats, one of the top 20 quality diamonds ever. Cool, hey?

Here's a pic of the Sep 24 one.

Prague is beautiful--I laughed in amazement.  Plus great beer.

On the border of Poland and Slovakia is a 25km Alpine mountain area.  The Swiss Alps are nice but $$$$$$$.  The High Tatry in Poland/Slovakia are affordable and equally nice.  Look for Zakopane (Poland) and Poprad (Slovakia) as places to stay.  Happy trails.  :)

I live in Texas, America, and here it is very very hot. The coldest it has ever gotten while I've lived here was 10 degrees farenheit, and the hottest was 108 degrees. Where I live there are lots of Mexicans and African Americans. No, we don't ride horses, wear cowboy hats/ boots/ chapps, talk with weird accents, or walk bow-legged. I think it is funny that so many people think I live like that. I am a Texan but goodness! XD
