Help needed for speech

Hello everyone,

I am creating a speech about chess and need some very important questions answered. If you have any knowledge or have any ideas to help my speech please comment below. Here are my questions. Please only post helpful comments.

1. Why is chess mandatory in different countries?                 2. Is it mandatory to learn chess in your country?                  3. What have you gained from learning, playing, and memorizing chess?

Have any ideas to help my speech? My points are

History of chess. Social impact. Life lessons.

Thank you! -KH

I doubt whether there is a country in which chess MUST be teached in schools.   There are countries asking schools to do it, Sweden and one in South-America comes to my mind, was it Venezuela ?  In the previous Soviet Union it could have been mandatory...  Anyhow in my country, the Netherlands, it is not mandatory, but lots of schools give lessons and have teams for tournaments, all voluntarily.

Q 3, "gained" ?  A 3, a lot, but finally taken up in ones personality (or not at all).  No doubt many books answer this question.

Wish you luck in preparing your speech, explain to non-players that chess is not boring; it is worth the time spent with it; you can often play it everywhere, at noon or evening; social contacts in clubs are mostly very good; nice playing on the internet, to human beings all over the world; ask your listeners why they don't play chess or what strange ideas they might have about the game, that gives you the possibility to answer positively !          Regards, RomyGer.
