As stated in the topic. Mentality plays a huge role within the game of chess and this is something that should not be a surprise for most. When you are angry, you make silly mistakes as well as attack more often. When you are discouraged, you don't see the plain winning moves or find winning schemes in the game. Emotions are in league with your mentality in the chess games we so often play.

However... if you are able to have dominion over these emotions, can you become stronger as a result? I think so.... Imagine: You are on Live and you unleashed a Seek and await for an opponent. When you get into the game and see your opponents name and it turns out it a Grandmaster, what do you think your emotions are going to be like?? Out of whack! Nervous! These are the kind of feelings you get right? And then when you play the game, you start to get even more nervous and when the game is done, you lost! And then a week later when you study the game against the GM and then you notice all of the mistakes you did in the game, you wonder why you made those mistakes to begin with! And the answer must be because of your nerves and your mental state while playing the game, or this is what I had noticed when playing at higher level chess playing. And if these are true, it begs the question, " If I wasn't so frigidity, could I had win that game?" My answer? I think so. Think about it... you start with the same position, they're human, your human now the only thing that is different is possibly experience!! But all of us have to work with what we got in the end and you can have your knowledge, your experience no matter what that might be, and your emotions and just pull them together all at once! Feel confident about what you got and then see what kind of game you will have with the GM then!! You might lose, draw or win by this point. But it is all determined by what kind of mental state you have first! Fear and nervousness does not get you anywhere in the end so why feel it? Be confident and then see what comes out of it! (But these are just my opinions mind you and these work for me)

If you follow these I think you will find that you will get more from chess then you have been if you had not been feeling more positive when playing chess. Have a good mood or emotion when playing, then good things come! Easy as that! Now then from reading all of this, in which I thank you if you did take your time to do so, then I want to hear your opinions in the matter! I am interested to hear your thoughts in the matter.
