Best rating

Hello everybody,

in my personal page, where my statistics are shown, it says my highest rating at Blitz is 1677.

Now, this happened only because I won my very first three games on the site, but I don't feel this rating gives an accurate idea of my potential.

What would you think about excluding the first evaluation games from this statistics, and including only the highest achievements one reaches when his ratings get more stable?

But it says HIGHEST rating.

In some other places, your rating is marked as provisional for the first 20 or so games, and not included in the stats.  It seems like a good idea.

cshuenss,

you got a point. Still I think considering provisional ratings diminishes the information this value might offer.

When I check it on other players' profiles, I would like to use it to enrich the information carried by his rating.

Again I use my profile as example: if you read my best rating is 1677, wouldn't you think I could sustain that level for at least a while?

Instead I got it after a couple of lucky games and abstentminded opponent, but right at that time my rating was jumping wild.. and the very next games took me 4 hundreds points below that number.

Hi again,

I just read about the Glicko rating system (here an easy introduction provided by the site) and I realize my idea was too simplistic.

The challenging point is that RD is high not only when playing the very first games, but also when you've been absent for a long period.

Hence, considering players who play only occasionally on the site, their rating would never be considered "stable" the way I intended it.

The concept of "stable" itself would be challenging: we should set an arbitrary RD threshold to define it.

And then what? Showing both statistics, specifying that one is made up taking into account also the games played with high RD while the other not? I easily imagine many players would just be puzzled by the difference.

I think I'm stopping here, even because I see the issue didn't raise a real interest; anyhow, I would like to read a viable proposal by someone who has a deeper understanding of the theme.
