I know that these problems have been reported here earlier, but I feel the need to add my personal expression of frustration with the constant bugs in the Tactics Trainer. I'm a Gold Member, so I've access to 25 TT problems a day. Within the course of solving these problems, it regularly occurs at least once if not twice that the TT freezes after my move, i.e. statistically this bug affects about or more than 5 out of 100, which is a remarkably high rate.
The only remedy is to clear the entire browser history (I'm using the newest version of Firefox), which also logs me out, to log in again and then continue. Refreshing the current tab just leads to the TT presenting the next problem which comes with the same bug.
Needless to say, this seems to happen especially with puzzles where I found the right move(s) within seconds, which increases my anger. I want my points for these puzzles back!!
I suppose that the Chess.com team has addressed this problem, however, browsing through the forum posts on this issue doesn't really give me the impression that there have been provided solutions other than "clear your cache and start over", which I would regard as being not entirely sufficient. Feel free to correct me if I've overlooked something.
Would I be well advised - until these bugs are being removed for good - to prophylactically clean my history after every dozen of TT problems to prevent this? Any experience on that?
Thank you in advance for your advice.
That is strange, I don't seem to have this particular problem - as of yet TT only ever froze on me in the old format. However, I confess I didn't come around to use TT extensively lately.
Mehmet, if it was like this I would patiently sit and wait for the computer to move, but it's MY clock that continues ticking after I have moved.
Is there any specific tactic this happens on ?
This is difficult to tell as the freezing happens at a point where the problem's ID is not visible to the user and it is not listed in my tactics trainer list after cleaning the history and restarting the whole thing. I could hit the "report problem" button next time it happens, but as far as I have understood, this refers to problems with some moves in the problem, not technical problems with the trainer as such.
However, if your question was referring to whether the bug is connected to a certain type of problem, I'm pretty sure no. One can only rely on the fact that it happens sooner or later. When I was a non-paying member and did only three problems a day, it occurred also around every 10th puzzle, i.e. about once in 3-4 days.
Kohai, today the bug happened during problem 0070130 after my second move (which was supposedly correct and should have been the last move in the problem). As always, my clock continued running instead of the computer responding with the result. It was the 18th problem on that day, I had cleared the history once earlier before because the TT had been very slow.
Do you recall which move you made? In 0070130 there are only two moves to solve the tactic.
I played 1. ...Rc2+ followed by the forced computer move 2. Kb1 then 2.... Qa2#. TT froze after my second move. I tried it again in view mode right now and it worked perfectly. Do you really think that this bug is triggered by certain moves? It's difficult to imagine for me.
Not sure. I tried that same one, I entered the two moves correctly and it did work for me.
Which browser and version are you using and on which operating system so I can try and copy what you did to see if the same happens for me then?
I'm using Firefox 11.0, my operating system is Windows 7 Professional (Version 6.1 Build 7601 Service Pack 1).
hmm odd, thats the same as I'm using yet it worked for me. I'll keep trying to see if i can make it happen my end.
Today, this problem with TT happened 3 times in a row - move, no response by computer but my clock still ticking - clear browser history, re-log-in, start tactics trainer - move, no response etc. Like a threefold draw.
This is annoying, please do something about it. Thank you in advance.
[Edit: it occured 5 times altogether.]
I also get this problem it started as soon as you changed to the new format of TT. (the old format never bugged on me). I am only a normal member so only do maximum of 3 problems a day but I can count on it happening on at least 1 of those 3. sometimes more. I usually just refresh the browser which then moves me to a new puzzle. The timer then refreshes on my move to the amount of time left on the previous puzzle. I dont know if this is related but I also get a bug in online chess where i will make a move and it will not register or the piece i move dissapears completely. This can be gotten past by refreshing the browser, annoying, but does not affect the game. The TT however is affected, and my score has suffered greatly because of it.
