I was just curious if anyone had any plans to take their love of chess.com and google's chrome web browser to the next level and create a chess.com extension for chrome? :-)

Every day I search the extension library for "chess" just in case and it always comes back empty :P

For someone not familiar with extensions, what would a chess.com extension for google chrome do?

    Everything!

For example it can say you when is your move (so you don't check your mail or chess.com )

It all depends on the skill of the programmer. It could even be made to show a little chess board which you can make the move in.

This can be done with Firefox...

Chrome extensions are supposedly easier to write (just what I've read) and chrome starts up alot faster than firefox for me. Firefox takes anywhere from 10-30 seconds to start up for the first time on my work machine which is pretty old. Chrome starts up instantly. I love it!

Not to say I don't support firefox. If anyone wants to write a chess.com extension for firefox by all means go for it. Just recently firefox 3.5 was named the most popular web browser on earth based on statistics. :)

mwill, I almost never close the browser, so start up time is really irrelevant. And if I do have to have 10-30 seconds, that's why <higher power of your belief system> invented windows and beautiful days.

Having said that, I do use the chrome browser for some things and do like it.

Maybe somebody already posted link to this firefox add-on before, but here it is: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13021

I just figured I'd suggest this as it is a brand new untapped platform to maybe even get some new users. I however use the iphone app so I get notifications instantly when its my move already. And I agree firefox is great, and when 4.0 comes out I will definitely check it out. 4.0 is really going to give it a much needed UI improvement :)

I, too, never close the browser. I run a script in the background to supplement the squelch sound effect (that indicates it's your move) by a spoken announcement.

I am sure this will be done at one point. Chess.com already has an add-on for iGoogle, and next logical step is the extensions.

I wouldn't use Google Chrome if they paid me and for C.c to allow this specious advertisement type forum posting while deleting other threads at whim is a disgrace to this site and suspect to the leadership of this site.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree Katonah. I am in no way affiliated with google or their browser. I'm sorry if one of your threads got deleted though.
