This suggestion might have been mentioned before, but so many posts that I could not find it.

Not everyone can afford the higher Diamond premium membership at close to USD $100 a year.

I for one, am very interested in building up a library of excellent chess DVDs Video Lessons and perhaps some members are also interested in acquiring such a library to replay as necessary.

Most of us do it for music and games etc and why not for chess videos?

Why am I interested you ask?

Because many short or truncated videos that I have looked at have likely potential material to help me improve or expand my horizon with a deeper comprehension of the material presented. However a 3 minutes preview from a 20+ minute’s video is not appealing or convincing enough to raise my subscription level to a Diamond level.

My suggestion is for chess.com to produce and offer single layer DVDs at 4.7 Mb with 2 hours of recording representing about 5 to 6 lessons and on dual layers DVD with 4 hours of play with twice as many lessons.

    Categories suggested are:

    1.     Chess openings

    2.     Middle game

    3.     Strategy

    4.     End games

    5.     Tactics

    6.     Short games, less than say 20 moves

    7.     Best games played by openings, a collection of “x” games per opening, I think that 30 to 50 games would be appropriate for each opening based on the most played opening moves.

    8.     The most brilliant games ever played at any time, regardless of the opening, a collection of 30 to 50 best games ever played with appropriate commentaries by a GM over the entire chess playing centuries. Sacrifices, traps, cunning moves that require deep analysis and simple moves.

All of the DVDs in every category could be offered at a competitive price of a DVD on the market, prices can be adapted to the quality of the information being rendered. Prices could be also offered based on the level of membership, but this suggestion could turn off the non or lower membership levels s as the goal is to offer a one price for all.

    Should this be sub-contracted?

I leave it to the chess.com team to assess.
