Disconnectors!

We all know there is a problem here with people disconnecting in live games. I know it's still a win but it's always fun to finish a win. I think a "strike" system would be effective against disco's . When a person disconnects you can choose to give him a strike. When a person reaches a certain number (which varies daily so a user won't know if he's right on the edge) he would get a suspension of a day,or five days etc. .. Gimme some feedback.. Or this would also work against clock suckers that let the clock run down...

Well, just in a 5-5 game with KeePeR and the site dis-connected, so lost some rating points (game was about to be a draw)...  Oh well not such a big deal although it does happen with frequency.  Yahoo and CNN etc were reloading fine in the other browser windows, so the problem was not on this end.

Think if chess.com has to disconnect due to traffic or for whatever reason, that the ongoing games should become draws.

Or, have chess software on the server do a quick scan to see if somebody can clearly claim a win or draw upon disconnection, and then award those points.

Otherwise its quite a great site, am sure it has replaced yahoo games by now.

I think that should be the case too.

By your Internet provider. Or by chess.com? On ICC if someone got disconnected they would adjourn the game automatically either way and then you would have so much time to finish it. If your opponent wouldn't finish because he was losing you ask for adjudication. That system worked pretty well.

Free sites like this one, yahoo and others have players that download cheater software to kick you off the site.  That way they keep gaining rating points.  ICC is not a free site and these cheaters do not go there because cheating is controlled by the site.  ICC will ban you.

I just got dropped from a game. All other web traffic is working beautifully, but when I try to log back into live, it just routes me to the home page again...

Oh well... these things happen.  I was losing anyway.

Cheater software to kick an opponent off the site? Science? Or fiction?

I think he means to get them to disconnect.
