Group Protest

yes I too would like to know why this was downgraded as an opening and what the problem is with reinstating it?

I'm not trying to be unsupportive, but if the lady is supposed to have the day off I say let her take the day off.

I have to protest too. Too many starting positions were removed. I can create no more games, for ex., by 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. d4 Bg4 (that is my favourite line), or 1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5 or 3...Qd6 (that were themes for a lot of matches and vote games for our "1. e4 d5 Scandinavian defense" group) too. Where is Botvinnik's variation of the English opening, A26, that I prefer to play both as black and white? I agree with the fact that the previous system of starting positions was too complicate and contained openings never played by anyone having a fide rating. But I disagree with such a list that I have to see now when I create a game, especially when I have to play thematic games against my friends from e4 d5 group or against someone who dislikes my favourite openings.

I'll ask our super admin if he is allowed to create Qa5 or Qd6 thematic matches after starting positions have been changed. I think we have to join this protest.

And where is 4. c2-c3? I don't see it in the list about question, as 4. Bf1-c4 too. I played Goring's many times, but with less and less success and finally left it, but it was why I was interessed by this topic.

yes, a lot of variations are gone. now we have only few selections for Scotch Game

You have my support...Scotch has always been the way to open my chess day.

Yes, the Scandinavian group suffered from these restrictions too. Scotch players, we join your protest and ask to staff to put old starting positions back. And please return both main gambit lines of the Scotch, the classical Scotch gambit 4. Bc4, and my preferred Göring gambit 4. c3 too.

How about just the 500 actual main ECO codes? Or how about a reduced default and then a button saying "Advanced" or somesuch to give a wider selection?

yes, it would be even greater if the starting positions can be manually set.

My appologies if this is not the correct forum.  Is this an opening that beginners should explore near the begining of their chess carreer? More intermediate?  Dependes on how the player evolves on their own? Thanks.

@AZtokeshi, i think it is suitable for both beginners and advanced players, why not.

@ Ruby-Fischer, it is not about only avatar or trophies disappearing. it is about our group's theme openning which is available previously and has gone for several weeks. please read the original post carefully.

by the way, there is no one forced kohai to do this immediately by giving up her day off. we waited long enough and still can wait.
