Hi everyone!
I have a 100Mb/10Mb fiber connection (which isn't too cheap either...) and yet I've been lagging in Live Chess lately. I'm a member since August 2010 and everything has worked just fine up until a while ago.
Does anyone else experience the same troubles? (meaning everything was swell and now it isn't.)
I'd like to make out if I should yell at my broadband provider (or perhaps at chess.com?..).
sorouush
what dou you mean?
I mean that I used to have no lag and now I have lots of lag.
I have no problems with lag at any other sites or when downloading (legally, of course!).
I want to know if others have the same problems. When I know that, I will also know if I should sign up with a new broadband provider or a new chess site.

What I'd do is run this speed test (link) a few times to figure out if it's a problem with your internet connection. If you get inconsistent results or your speed just isn't what your ISP has promised, you should yell at your ISP. If everything seems normal in the speed test, it's probably some issue with (only) your connection to chess.com.
That's a good idea, didn't think of it, thanks.
My results ended up on a downloading speed at approximately 60 - 98 Mb/s and about 38 - 54 Mb/s uploading speed after doing the test multiple times with a ping of 9 ms. I had one result with a lower downspeed than the other results but it was still about 40 Mb/s, which should be plenty for playing live chess at chess.com.
I don't know how many are actually reading this, but I'll ask anyway:
Could this be software-/malware related? Are there any specifik browser applications or any other software known to interfere with Java (it's Java, right?) or something else on the site? Sorry to ask questions like these in the forums but I also wanted to know if similar problems had been experienced by someone else.
Maybe some administrator happens to get a glance at the thread

With a variation of 60-98 Mb/s in your test results, your internet connection doesn't sound too stable. Are you using a wireless network or connecting via a wire?
I'm sure your problem could be malware-related, but then again that might not be probable. Java performance can vary depending on the browser your using, though, so I have to ask: which browser are you using?
First of all, thank you for taking the time to try and help me!
I'm actually using what is supposed to be a top notch fiber LAN connection, meaning I have a wire from my PC that goes into a switch, which has a wire that goes straight into my wall. Browser-wise, I'm using Firefox, latest update - now I guess I'm kind of curious to try out IE once again, just to see if there's any difference at all.
I now know that a very dangerous *VIRUS* had infected my system and was causing the slower performance. I felt I should tell anyone who search these forums for answers on lag in Live Chess that, maybe they too, should run a whole computer scan, even if it takes several hours (around 7½ hours for me).
The virus in question was the "Win32/Heur" virus which is one of the more dangerous ones since the user may have it for a long time without realising that something is wrong. The program that found it for me was "AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012", however, it's a well known virus and my guess is, most anti-virus programs would detect it.
So, having lag troubles when playing chess online? Run a whole computer scan.
Regards,
Glad to hear you got it sorted out, although the problem itself was quite an unpleasant one it seems.
Cheers, and thanks for your support :)
