I'm the admin for a group called Geezers. We are basically older players or senior aged.  We are a pretty close knit group and being up there in years we have members that for what ever reason never log in again.  i'm just wondering if it would be possible for chess.com, since they have everyones email address, to contact those who have not logged in for a long time to contact them and send a form letter saying that your group is worried and just wanted to know if you were all right.  Perhaps it could be asked by super admin of groups only. I think the basic idea is good but would need some parameters of course and should not be to obtrusive to chess.coms duties..   scut

Hi Clive, my sincere condolences at the sad loss of your father.

My father passed away 15 years ago, he was also 83!  Sadly, he had  Alzheimer's Disease and that progressed to pneumonia in a very short space of time.  To witness such an intelligent man's rapid decline was heartbreaking.  May I suggest, checking on your friend would certainly put your mind at ease, it would also aid the recovery process of your friend I'm sure?

In spite of the 'weight on your shoulders' at this time, I do hope you manage to have a good Christmas.  Very Best Wishes to you and yours from Dave in Leeds :)

Another excellent idea! Not knowing if any of our friends have died, with no way to check is distressing. I think leaving it up to admin, if they don't mind, is the way to go, any other way may be construed as an invasion of privacy. :)

thnx 2 dave 4 your condolences about my dad, although he did have all his facalties,he had some desease which caused fluid on the lungs and it was being drained every day,but he had enough and as at the end they had him on a ventilator as well,he asked 4 it 2 be turned off and died naturaly,  they also had him on dialysis, but 83 is a good ageIm due 2 visit my friend today,he has also had fluid on the lungs, but they moved him 2 the hospital, where i work as they had found a dark patch on his lungs,i suppose its better 2 beer these things when 1 is older than younger, its never easy but its probably easier.

I think it's an excellent idea, and that an admin should be appointed for the task - though I promise to let you know if I die.

    To:- scut_fargus,

This is a very good idea to keep track of Sr. citizens and elderly folks who are members of Chess.com. I am 67 years old,  and  hope and pray that I could continue to play chess for another 10 years.

    Cheers !!!Cool

1 "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"...

2 I am a staunch member of the Geezers' Club which is led by Scut Fargus, a man who leads from the front with great panache, hard work and commitment - in order to serve the Geezer cause , within a framework of chess and educational topics. He really does a wonderful job, holding this Club together by dint of an interest way beyond the call of duty.  If there are any Senior citizens out there, who want to enjoy their chess coupled with lots of entertainment, feel free to join up.  You won't regret it.

3 I sometimes wonder if chess.com really appreciates the work done by the likes of Scut Fargus.  After all, he IS promoting the site by offering up the attraction of a Club for senior Citizens and he is personally making sure that it is an undoubted success.

4 This is an excellent suggestion by Scut Fargus and it is to be hoped that chess.com will back it to the hilt. I agree with fellow-Geezer, ellamayee, that for the Geezer Club to probe into someone's whereabouts COULD  be construed as invasion of privacy.

how about this: when anyone joins the geezer group s/he would provide (and this would be optional of course) contact info of a person that may be contacted 'in case of silence.'  that way the admin knows exactly who to ask AND the member has given permission for inquiries to be made.

Fascinating ... the origins of a chess.com 'death watch'. I can see a betting pool starting up very soon ... but better for your children would be to set up a rolling series of tontines within your group.

which would, consequently, provide motive and basis for a great murder mystery...  And Then There Were No Geezers

Really...really fellow Geezers, Scut's brilliant suggestion doesn't deserve your mocking!  60 days in 'The Tower' will befall such behaviour, shame on you!

So you're saying, "If you join our group, we know you'll probably die soon. Fill out this form." Good times indeed.

Good idea. That would bring back lots of inactive people, if they were still alive.
