I think they notice that simple live chess was still similar after the change, so they had to screw that over too.

They're so annoying for me to even play with, and I like to have sounds. The older Queen THUNK! they added was just dumb and unnecessary. Haven't heard what it is now beacuse it's too annoying to play Live chess now. They don't need a sound for each possible move either.

The new sounds are like billard balls being hit. Sharp and not as soft as before.

If they feel the need to change them, give an option for other sounds. Options are nice anyway. You should be able to turn on/off any particular one too.

One could hack this site and not do more damage then you guys are accomplishing.

nah. I'm sure the site will forget I was ever here before then. Most of the new sounds are like farting noises.

If you like it, great. There should be options like they have for the board color and pieces. But I'm not going to start liking something this bad.

For those who can't get enough of the 'old' sounds, they are still present on the Tactics Trainer :-)

Who the hell is the programmar who made these sounds? There seems to be some ulterior motive. He/She might want to tarnish the image of chess.com. Please re-install the old sounds.

about the 'new sounds'   - - classic FAIL.

many of the features of this once chess oriented site were recently changed.     Personally, I do not like many of the changes, but am not considering moving elsewhere as this site beats yahoochess and many other sites all to heck.

now, it seems to be somewhat more 'facebook-crowd-oriented' and less about chess.

change is going to happen, however, not all changes are viewed as 'improvements' by a lot of the users - it would seem (from the comments here).

maybe they will add options to select the features many users liked in the previous edition.

I have been member for more than 2 years. I never went to any other chess site except yours. Because I thought this site was a perfect chess site and I admired the intelligence of the architects of chess.com. But now I am forced to rethink my opinion again since you introduced new sounds effects.

The options should have a dropdown list for each sound with included <none> if you don't want a sound played at all for a particular move/action.

And of course a play button next to each so you don't have to play a game to even hear it.

We have a ticket for user-selectable sound schemes - but as yet, no ETA.

We'd also need more themes...

- Waterfowl of the Pacific Northwest?

- Name That Aircraft?

- Super Mario Chess?

- Cat In The Chandelier?

how about "Return to the previous sounds" ?  (all of them)

alternatively, since there appears to be quite a few who dislike the new ones intensely, return to the previous ones the next server restart, and then work out the bugs to allow choices on the new sounds.

Does anyone else find it odd that this is the only reply to this post from the staff. Do they care what we think? There is no thread in the forums about the love of the new sound system because it is unanimous that the new sounds are a mistake.
