My technique is pretty simple but I think effective. 

Step 1:  If possible simply don't respond.  Ignore completely once you realise that you're dealing with a troll. 

Step 2:  If you just can't help yourself (I frequently fall into this category) do not address the troll directly.  Instead talk ABOUT the troll to other people posting.  The results of using this kind of approach can be very interesting and for me, personally, have a way of allowing me to maintain emotionally detached from the troll while allowing me to say what I think.  To me that is priceless.

lol love your technique.  i do the same.  i cannot stand them, and dealing with them is a huge waste of time, as is addressing them directly.  instead, i use them as un-named examples in other threads.  i get a hoot out of it and it goes over the troll's head - double win.
