Are there any plans to
1) Correct some of the ECO codes in the explorer and (more importantly)
2) Fully include transpositions?
Thanks.
RetGuvvie98
what makes you think some of them are incorrect, and which ones? and, why would you start a blog like this, instead of messaging staff directly about site problems, if such actually exist ?
which transpositions are you referring to? provide specifics please. no one can shoot in the dark and actually find a target with any degree of accuracy, and few of Erik's staff have the time to waste, trying to figure out what you are meaning.
regards,
Some are incorrect because they are inconsistent with other sites codes.
As for transposition examples, the Botvinnik varation of the semi slav appears if on move 2 black plays e6, but it can equally occur if black plays c6 on move 2. If, however, I enter this in the game explorer (arriving at the same position via slightly different move orders) it does not appear.
Lastly, this is not a blog, it's a forum post in the correct place, namely "Site feeback and suggestions".Best,RR

Botvinnik variation of the semi-slav = 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 e6 5.Bg5 dxc4 6.e4 b5
Another move-order to this position : 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c6 4.Nf3 dxc4 5.Bg5 Nf6 6.e4 b5

Yes, game explorer seems to take into account only a specific path to a position rather than simply evaluating the position FEN when assigning an ECO.

not that i know of in the short-term RR. (i could be mistaken). i think we have some more pressing upgrades coming.
it seems by transpositions you just mean that you want it to recognize different move orders and then correctly label them with eco codes or with names... but from my experience that's not super important... i mean, i don't know the names or eco codes for many openings, and never needed to know them to improve...
best,
david
ps- yes you posted this in the right place! thanks for providing feedback and suggestions. :D

I thought that was a problem with the entire ECO system itself. Especially with all of the uncommon openings being thrown in one group.
Actually, I think there is an issue where if the move order is different but you reach the same position, the stats are different, but I will double check and confirm.
Thanks for the reply David.
