I've observed a quirk in the way Tactics Trainer pairs me with problems, and I'm wondering if others have similar experience. Lately, I find that I am getting a disproportionate number of problems that are rated higher than my TT rating. I just think this is odd. In the next post, I will copy my present TT history so that you can see what I'm talking about.
If you are reading this, and if you use Tactics Trainer, would you please do the same? I'm quite curious to see what others are experiencing.
Best regards,
Here is my TT history for the last 25 problems. You can see that I only got three problems that were lower than my rating. What is your experience?
Here is another block of 25 problems in my TT history. Same thing. Only two problems are lower.
Here are 25 more. 25/25 are higher than my TT rating. I'd sure like to hear why the problem pairing is biased like this.
Let me explain what you see above.
The problems where I got "100%" were rated retests. I failed the problem, Tactics Trainer gave it to me again, I solved it instantly and got 100% full credit.
Notice also how the only times that I get paired with a lower rated problem are when my rating is below 2000.
Here is another block of 25 problems. 19/25 are higher rated than me. Those that weren't occurred when my TT rating was <2000. All problems where I scored 100% were "rated retests".
In the block of problems below, 25/25 were higher than my Tactics Trainer rating. The one where I scored 98% was a rated retest.
Is anyone else having the same experience?

That's weird. Retests, huh? I don't get those. Must be a bug.

TT adapts to your current success level and attempts to give you appropriate challenges. Quite often my block of 25 most recent problems is a sea of red, in which case the TT takes pity and feeds me easier problems than my current rating. Nail 5 or 6 of those and I'm right back at my rating. Get a couple more right and it ramps right back up to 100 or even 200 points higher than my present rating. Would love for someone who understands the math of it to give a "dumbed down" explanation of how it all works.........
OOps, missed your main point, sorry. I think the "rated retest" is a feature for premium members. I first noticed it about 6 months ago and posted a thread then (Tactics Trainer too generous?). Seems to be a deliberate attempt to give a review of questions that have been missed. I once had it give me the same question 3 times in a row. I might have missed it more than a few times to incite TT to such radical behavior, but yeah I don't think it's a bug. I look at as a feature, even if it wasn't designed to be.
I think that you should have an equal chance of getting a problem that your Tactics Trainer rating +/- a reasonable amount, say 200. I'm clearly not getting this.
Below is another block of problem history.
Above, 5 out of 25 problems were rated higher than my TT rating. With one exception, the lower rated problems occurred when my TT rating was under 2000.
anywhere that I got 95% or higher, it was a rated retest.
Okay.
Now that my Tactics Trainer rating has slipped 150 points or so, I am able to demonstrate how bias in problem pairing shifts. Ready?
