A feature to allow thematic games and tournaments to be specified with a FEN would simplify finding obscure openings (ex: it took me a while to find "Black knights Tango" because chess.com calls it "Mexican Defense"). It would also allow hypothetical positions, such as switching the knights and Bishops as Capablanca supported as an alternate setup. In a forum, one post was interested in a game with no castling allowed. Also, interesting chess960 positions could be repeated, or a strong player can give a weak player pawn or piece odds.
To prevent unfairness, it would be fine if this is a feature that requires the game to be unrated.
