Hi folks - Sorry if this topic has already been discussed but I couldnt find it after a cursory glance of the forum.

How about a team of top rated players from each country playing against their counterparts of other countries? Eg South Africa against Australia, UK versus Ukraine etc. Could be on knockout or round robin basis. Has this been tried or discussed before?

I like the idea!! it's been discussed before but i dont know if that had been tried before.

I am certain they had a game of USA against the world.  This was I think because www.chess.com has the most players from the USA.  I like the idea of country against country though.  However I think it was whoever wanted to play not just top rated players.

There was two of those and also a hemisphere challenge, but I'm not sure that we have had one country versus another.

Yeah. The idea is great. So if someone want to create a tournament. I want to play for germany. :)

Ok, so I figure we have a South African Team eager to do battle on the board (let's say about 5 players per team, why don't we hear form other players if they are keen to approach players from their country and then we can get this show on the road. Is there anyway that Chess.com can coordinate the event? Another idea is for each country to hold an open tournament in their own country and then the top players from each country then take each other on in the International Challenges.

Isnt chess.com about to host a country vs. country tournament? Just join your countries team and participate!
