Please note that TDs are allowed to invite limited players. If you are unble to join a tournament for one reason or another, please decline so that TD can invite someone else.

We get following message when we try to invite more people due to lack of entries.

"You are allowed to invite up to three times the number of max players minus players already registered (see formula below). As your invites are accepted/declined, you are allowed to invite more players.'

Ah, I didn't know that.

Maybe they should make it so that unaccepeted invitations expire after a while?

Yeah, kind of annoying once you have sent out the max invites and then someone actually asks to join.

It is now two years after the above comment and the problem still persists.  I need to invite more players but have reached max (3x).  A timeout on an invite would help.  Better would be a TD's ability to withdraw an invitation from the control board.  If anyone knows how to manage this please let me know.
