Fast and slow players

I've been playing for more than a year in more than 200 tournaments. In every tournament I've played there are fast players who finish their matches rather quickly. Then there is other players who make only one move in 24 (or even more than that) hours. All the other players are finish but they are delaying the tournaments to finish. Can't we have a referendum (under chess.com members) to determine how to deal with this matter. Give us certain possibilities that we can choose from them or keep on doing nothing (and really gets frustated)!

Well, I advocates for the slower players, I'm one of them, I have a job (I didn't receive any payment for playing chess Frown... yet Tongue out), a wife, a daughter, practice other sport (capoeira), I study in college, etc, well, I have just another live appart from chess and the chess.com site (which is so cool), so, I'm not make my moves every 24 hours or more intentionally.

P.S. When you enter a tournament check the "Player Move Speed", or if you're the TD create it whith the Player Move Speed according your desired move speed.

There are already controls available when setting up a tournament to achieve faster-moving games:

    • Player Move Speed: Above average (<12 Hours); Fast (<6 Hours); Very Fast(<3 Hours)
    • Max Timeout %
    • [DON'T] Allow players to use VACATION TIME
    • Days Per Move

If you find leisurely-moving players too disturbing, it's probably advisable to avoid tournaments that lack these slowness restrictions.

Thanks for your comment Exal. I know about Player move speed, but even that don't help! Then some of them just go on vacationtime, but that is another topic that were discussed earlier. I also have another life, but when I know I'm going to be busy then I scale down to less tournaments and games. I'm going on vacation in a week, so I scaled down from over a 100 games, to less than 40.

Oh, in understand, if the problem if that they go on vacation protection enter in tournaments that doesn't allows the vacation time, as well as artfizz saids.

Yes, I've played in lots of no vacation time tournaments, but some players are playing so slow and then thats even more frustating. Now I play in 20 or more tournaments simultaneously, but then I know a can't concentrate on all the matches and loose some of them because of that. But thank you for your comments.

SJCorrie, you also have to accomodate for time differences - for instance it's 10am where I am and 5pm where you are....

If I were playing you, I wouldn't likely make a move until tonight after work (when you are sleeping), and similarly any move you make in response I wouldn't see until tomorrow night (when I get home from work).  Just by virtue of our schedules we would be hard pressed to make one move a day each.

Yes, I understand that. I'm somebody that can stay up long past midnight and then I get the USA - Canada players live, but not everybody can do that. Usually over weekends somebody can make much more moves that will help to get along faster, but that also don't happen. Thanks for your remark.

I'm just amazed at the >100 games comment, SJ. Surprised

I thought I was really going with my 20 or so.

    Good New Year to all!

Perhaps there should be a separate Tournaments section under Live Chess.  Live Chess was under-construction part of this past year.  Just an idea, the conflict won't go away.  The Live Chess seems to work, it seemed reliable even when it was Beta.  Kudos to the programmers at Chess.com!

Anyway perhaps they would just consider a tournaments section under Live Chess.  Definately intense competition here at Chess.com.

There is nothing you can really do about it I don't worry if others slow down tournaments I always think  - they have to face it sometime. If you want to make it faster put it on 1/day move and no vacation.

I tend to play quickly, but I am retired. Cool

I've been on both sides of this issue (I started out a fast player, and I've gotten slower and slower over time -- I am now, glacial.)  I think there must be some creative time-solutions that would satisfy all parties if chess.com wanted to try them...

Is there some reason why we can't have cc hourglass time (with like three or seven days on the hourglass) ... or 'super long time control' live chess... for example with 1 month set on each clock?

Frankly though, those of you getting annoyed at slow players should try calming down and getting into the mellow cc groove. It's sort of zen to stop being so utterly results obsessed chasing urgently after the final outcome be 1-0 0-1 or 1/2 1/2, and just sink into the slow contemplation of each position.

    ...Ommmm...

    to the OP:  http://www.chess.com/members/view/Karl_

this member has a Fast Players Group...and they hold tournaments regularly and finish them within two weeks from what I've seen.  Perhaps try there?
