GM Darwin Laylo captured the championship trophy and P 15,000 in the 1st Mayor Florencio Bernabe Open Chess Tournament bested out 244 participants last November 8-9 at SMSucat Activity Center, Paranaque City. other winners are NM Llavanes& IM Chito Garma

Thanks for the info. Like you, English opening is also a favorite of GM Laylo. Is he your favorite Filipino player right now? Wesley So is my favorite Filipino player right now. Seems Wesleys rise to the top was sudden and only recently starting in 2007.

I first had a glance at him duirng the 1993 Phil Junior Championships and was impressed by his handling of passed pawns.He was with hi trainer then GM Joey Antonio.Wink
