Joining best group chess.com tournament

Why isn't it possible to join the highest chess.com tournament? I understand it's not possible to join a group below your rating, since most people joining that group would find it unfair. But what's wrong with joing a group above your rating? I don't see why the higher rated players would complain, since for them it would mean easy points towards the second round. For me it would be allmost the only opportunity to play higher rated opponents..

What are the thoughts behind not allowing this? Or is it allowed and did I just miss something?

Higher rated players like to play other higher rated players. More challenge.

How do I ever get between the higher rated players if I dont get the opportunity to play them? :P

Also I think I would not be a too easy push over. I can understand they wouldn't like to play a 900 player. But can't they make the groups a bit bigger then? Let's say 1600-2000 or 1800-2400?

Well, that's up to the tournament director- just look for tournaments with large rating ranges, e.g. >1600.

Duh. Just beat the players of your current rating. Ratings can rise very quickly on chess.com.

I don't mean ratingwise. Maybe I'll never get there. But don't u learn a lot more from games played against a higher rated opponent? I know I do. Having the opportunity to play against 5 higher rated players would probably help me more then 50 of my own rating..

@ Nytik; I'm going to try to find a tournament like that, thank you!

Yes, sorry, I was a bit rude.

Luckily, chess.com official tournaments are not the only way of getting opponents on here :-)

     No problem.

I hope I can find another nice tournament with some good players participating. We'll see :) Thanks everyone!

It would if you looked at the list of players in the tournament before joining. You may also have to play weaker players, but that would benefit them in the same way you playing better players benefits you, and so you would be helping others improve while improving yourself.

If you want to play higher rated players, play in some team matches. I often end up playing people way higher rated than me. Sometimes, I actually luck up and win.
