I've noticed that some tournaments award medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and that these show up in your tournament stats.  Other tournaments only recognise the overall winner.

Why is this, and how do you get to choose this setting when creating a new tournament?  Is it somehow related to the "custom medals" option?

i think it has something to do with the number of players in the tournament.  If there isn't enough players then only one medal will be awarded to the winner.  I think it is 8 players for the tournament to have 1st, 2nd,3rd.  If your in a tournament and no medal is awarded then you'll have to consult chess.com staff.  That doesn't sound right.  It might be a glitch.
