I just set up these two tournaments and I am wondering if anyone has ideas on how you get the word out about your tournaments so people will sign up for them.

You could make a blog post.  This forum actually might be enough to attract attention, though.

You should also see a link to "Invite Players" to your tournament on the right side of your tournament homepage.

I have tried inviting some players but it seams like to only way to invite is typing in each username which is pretty tedious and I am not sure who to invite other than my friends which I have already done.

Blogs, word of mouth, visit websites where there are people playing chess so you can promote your tournament..

You can invite available players in the eligible range but restrict yourself to premium members. They are more likely to be under their tournament limit. Ensure they have played recently. Try copy and paste rather than typing.

It can be quite a task to fill a tournament. If you check without logging in, you will see 25 plus pages of upcoming tournaments. There are many other distractions on the site so the list of non-started tournaments increases regularly.

You could try dropping the maximum number of players or you could wait until a full 96 players find your tournament but you have to weigh the possibility some registrants will have abandoned the site before your tournament begins.

Thank you. I see what you mean about competing with myself. In hind sight it even seems like seting up the Ruy Lopez and the Old Sicilian at the same time was a bad call. Well, live and learn I suppose.
