A loss on time like this  http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=31658797.

    All Games
    Total Games: 385
    In Progress: 8
    Timeouts: 41% (last 90 days)

A recent change in timeout policy means a very few timeout losses will result in a large timeout ratio, but only for 90 days. After 90 days a timeout is no longer counted.

A timeout is when you have not made a move within the allowed time, say 3 days or 5 days, etc. (and you do not have or use vacation time). Your timeout % is the number of timeouts divided by the total number of games played. To lower it you must play a lot of games and finish them win lose or draw.
