I just entered my first tournament and while the rest of the players in my group have played our games, one player has continually delayed by using his vacation setting. He makes roughly one move a week and has his status set to vacation the rest of the time. I realize this is part of the process, however I did notice that he has lost 9 of his last 10 games because of time (failure to make a move). Most of those are games with only one or two moves in them.
The question is, why has his rating gone up? His lone win is to a player ranked lower than him. When you lose on time, does it not count as a true loss? His vacation time is beginning to run out, so eventually he will have to start moving more quickly.
A game has to have a certain number of moves before it is rated (4 or 5, I can't remember exactly). So if his losses are with one or two moves, it won't affect his rating. If the win is the only game with enough moves, his rating will go up.
I believe that is false in tournament play,
i think you lose rating no matter what if you are in a tournament and you lose on time, but the other person wont gain rating i think.
Thanks for the answers. I believe these were all none tournament games that he let the time run out. That would explain what has happened to his rating. Those of us playing him in tournaments, he just places on Vacation. I see the need for "vacation as a feature", but like anything else someone will find a way to abuse it.
You only gain or lose points when u have played a certain number of moves (4 moves min) as a rule no matter whether its a tournament, match or normal game. Last i checked.
Go to ur settings and click on it and save it before u exist.
