I do know that compliant to FIDE rules you cannot test positive for any drugs. But my question is does this revolve around USCF as well? And as a side note...can you get a smoke break at a tournament? Heading to my first USCF event here soon just wondering...

Yes, you should be able to step outside between rounds. You should check with the TD to see how much time you have. You wouldn't want to be late.

Of course...thanks. Just wondered. Haven't kicked the habit yet. Does the drug test apply?

    No drug tests lol.

FIDE got a lot of trouble for trying that stupid rule out.

Anyway that was pro chess. It would never happen at your normal tournament.

Nobody is going to drug test you at a USCF event.

Also, you can step out for a smoke break during your game if you want. If your opponent moves while you are gone your clock is running whether you are back or not. The only issue I could see with this is if your opponent finds the smell distracting they could complain to the TD.

I get annoyed when someone near me stinks of cigarettes, I imagine I would be more so in an otb chess game.  But I guess there will always be distractions...
