    Excuse my small beef. Perhaps someone on Staff can clarify this.

    Here's the deal, ... Vladivinisky, due to a tie in an earlier round, played 2 games more than 96% of the rest of the field.

    Tournament end score  Vladivinisky  18-1-3   W 19.5
                                     pnwoods (me) 19-1  W  19

    Someone on staff needs to address this programming snafu.
    OTB official tournaments don't have entrants with the most wins coming in second.

    I suggest the site's tournament format is not feasible OTB.

    Assuming Vladivinisky had the best score in the final round, where all the players had an equal number of games with each other, then Vladivinisky appears to be the legitimate winner.

    I think I'm going to have a similar problem in this tournament:

    http://www.chess.com/tournament/screekdawg-quicky-open

    I'm winning the final round robin by 1.5 points.

    But if the 3rd place player wins the only remaining game, he ties for 2nd in the RR, but because of a better 1st round has a tournament score 1 point higher than me.

    Even if he draws this last game, he finishes 3rd in the RR, but wins the tourney?

    I was under the impression that every round starts with a clean slate.

    Your impression is correct. The final round results takes precedence.

    The standings before the end of the tournament are unofficial. Notice there are no numbers to indicate placement. Although you are not shown at the top you will be the winner. (Regardless of the outcome of the final game, AWARDCHESS is second and skiking is third.)

    NameRecordScoreTiebreakStatus
     skiking (1761) United States 15-2-2 16 56.75 Active
     rooperi (1679) South Africa 15-3-2 16 55.5 Active

    See this completed tournament where the standings follow the result of the final round not the overall tournament score. The winner's overall score is less than the score of the player in second place.

    #1 1st Place  adcc (1512) United States

    27-8-1 27.5 70.25 Round 5 -> 5 | 10
    #2 2nd Place  bigbadsnowman (1551) United States
    (114 points awarded)
    28-6-0 28 75.5 Round 5 -> 4 | 9

    That is actually a very big relief. It will be my 1st tourny win after a year and a hlf on this site, lol

    I owe you an apology, Tad. --- Thank you for taking the time to clarify. I was under the impression (by tourney completion % - 94) that mine was in the final round, -- which may have 1 or 2 left, since I've not even played Dimitri (Vladivinisky) yet.

    Your experience and patience are gratefully acknowledged.

    One question here for the experts:

    In a multi-round tournament I have made it to the final round where we are 2 players only. The first game was draw, and the second game could also end in a draw. My scores from the pre-final rounds in the tournament are much better than my opponent. In case of a draw in the second game what will happen:

    1. We are declared joint winners.

    2. A third game?

    3. I am sole winner because of my better scores in the preliminary rounds

    Thx in advance. I am just curious.

    1. Yes. (Note there is no tiebreak in a group of two.)

    2. See tiebreak info here http://www.chess.com/tournaments/help.html#tiebreak

    3. See post #5 - The final round results takes precedence.
