If you can see it here then try to join.

If you cannot, then look at help.

Who is allowed to join a tournament?

Anyone can join a tournament as long as you meet the critera for the tournament you are joining. Tournament Directors have the ability to change the criteria on a per tournament basis, but the default criteria is given below:

  • Must have completed at least 5 games of turn-based chess on Chess.com.
  • Must have at least a 10% win ratio.
  • Must have no more than a 10% timeout ratio.

I think it's completely unfair that there are people rated well over the 1400 limit, that can enter that tournament as their ratings only went over the thresshold after they registered. It should be that if you are over the rating criteria once the tournament starts you are excluded.

You have commented in a thread about a member-created tournament. In such a tournament others have stated that they were removed.

In a chess.com tournament there is a different process for the out of range players. erik has recently added this to the 1201-1400 tournament writeup: "Players who's ratings move beyond the rating range of this tournament will be automatically moved to the correct tournament section when the event begins."

I asked to join the 1400-1600 Tournement, as my rating was 1400+.  I then lost a match, and my rating dropped below 1400, so they put me in the 1200-1400 Tournement.  After I started playing in this, I won a match, and my rating went back above 1400!  All a bit tricky!

I don't see a big difference in 1401 and 1399- I understand if your opponent is hundreds of points over you(200+) but less than that makes no difference in my opinion.
