I have hosted 9 small tournaments. I usually use a one day playing format, because I like lively play rather than long drawn out events. How can I make these "no vacation" events? I hate when after two months I'm still on move 3 or when all players have completed their games except one and he/she has completed no games, because he is perpetually on "vacation."
First, I want to say that I have never run a vacation on here but I think this is the process:
When you create a tournament you should have a link just above the description that says Show more advanced options »
Click that, scroll down and uncheck the option that says Allow players to use VACATION TIME.

Thanks Martin, I'll look for that next time. I guess I did not notice a "more advanced options button" before.
Looks like the drop-down is pre-populated and since it doesn't have higher than 3 then it doesn't seem that you can have more than 3 advancing in any round.

I have a stalemate, what do I do now please?
No sir, it is stalemate.
I do not know if I did this correctly, white to move, no moves can be made

I created a tournament yesterday, but it does not appear on my upcoming tournaments list. Is this normal?
kohai
Did you create a min and/or max rating on the tournament ? and if so, are your own ratings within that criteria ?
Yes and yes. I've already joined it! I thought that might be the reason it is invisible (namely, it would shift to a different category) but other tournaments I have joined still appear on the upcoming list, such as the upcoming thematic chess.com tournament.
If for example you are rated 1200 and you create a tournament for members rated 1400 - 1600, you won't see those on your page as you're not eligible to join them being outside of that ratings bracket. You can only see tournaments that you are eligible to join. However, if you log out, then click on the tournaments page (whilst NOT logged in) you will see the tournaments on the page there.
Kohai, I tried that experiment and it did indeed work as you said.
However, it is a 960 tournament with range 1300-1600. My 960 rating is 1308, so I am in that range. My normal chess rating is >1600 which would kick me out. However, since it is 960, I hope and trust that the rating range applies to 960, not the normal, or?
The name of the tournament is "No Blindside 960" if you would like to confirm.

Hello!
People are complaining because i take so long to move. I do, but i never use vacation or timeout. Isn't this still legal for me to carry on like this? (Yes, i know the others are gettting annoyed, especially razorlove2bowl)
On your tournaments page, its shown at the top under "tournaments i am currently directing", thats where the image link above came from
yes it should do

One of the things I have noticed particularly in knock type tournaments (i.e group size of just 2 players), if an odd number of players go through to the next round, the person that gets the bye in the next round is the person who is mid field. Fore example: if 11 players go through to the next round. According to how chess.com determined the make up the groups in the next round the groups will be.
I would think the the top rank player should get the bye rather than the mid ranked person. This is more important in the final rounds where there are 3 players left and, you get 1 verse 3 and the 2nd ranked player get a free ride to the gold medal round. The way it currently is being done doesn't seem to be fair.
which is better, kings gambit or polish opening??
