What is youre favorite time control ?

1|0 would be my favoured time format, though it is frustrating when you have mapped out a route to checkmate your opponent but only have about 1 second left :/

A 10|0 is a decent time format also for those of us who don't have ample time for pondering over a chess game.

Yeah I think that 10 minutes is my favourite time control. 30 minutes dosent even use the clock at all.

That's only because you choose not to use the time. Generally, if you have more time, and acutally use it, you will find yourself making stronger moves.

It's sorta like goldfish; Goldfish will grow to fit the size of their tank.

If you have more time, you should use the time.

Here is a great article by Dan Heisman that can help in adjusting to longer time controls:

3 days per move ;) I prefer CC right now, as I've only been playing for a week after a year of no chess at all. CC lets me get reaquainted with my openings, and find and plug the gaps. I do have slow time control games coming though, in the slow chess league qualifier 19 (my OTB tournament preparation).

Well I mean that 30 minutes is so slow that its not even worth using the clock at all.

Generally, all the rated tournaments i have played in have had primary time controls of 40/120 (i.e., 120 minutes for the first 40 moves) and a secondary control of SD/60 (i.e., 60 minutes for the rest of the game), typically with a delay of 5 or 10 seconds.  These time controls tend to be a bit too long for me (or at least I have not been using all of my time effectively).  Optimal for me is probably G/90 without delay or increment, but there are few tournaments with such a time control.

30 minutes is super fast! You hardly have any time to think, you don't have 20 minutes to calculate out some random line that probably doesn't even work, hardly enjoyable. My suggestion for you Seb is play 90 30 tournament games, and play tough guys, get crushed, and learn! After about 30 or so games you get more comfortable with the time control.

oldfart61

40/2 is mine but a little faster is ok!!!!!!

Quicker games are good for excercise, extra competetion and fun.....but can never replace original slow/conventional chess games. All the historical classical and brilliant games are of slower time control. But yes there must be some degree of time control to make it interesting for the viewers also. Just like Cricket have 3/4 different time specefic games against initial 5 days, they developed new designs of 3 days, 1 day and now 20/20 overs.
While playing onine, I play 10 min game...blitz but physically, I play standard....normally 25 min each time.
