Old school versus new school metal (numetal, metalcore, Marilyn Manson could be queen if Angela Gossow or the chick from Lacuna Coil aren't selected).

Now White old

Black new

White King-Ozzy (I don't like most of his stuff, but I give him credit for longevity)

White Queen-Lita Ford, possibly Doro, or any of the chicks from Girlschool (I was bummed to hear that Kelly Johnson died.  Girlschool weren't popular over here and I was checking out their site and saw).

King's bishop- Rob Halford

Queen's bishop- Bruce Dickinson

King's knight- Randy Rhoades

Queen's knight- Lars Ulrich

KIng's rook- Dimebag Darrel

Queen's rook- Ronnie James Dio

Since I only know what I like in newer music, it would be unfair of me as it would all be death metal and maybe a couple of other people that are not any type of metal, they just are.  This can be fun guys!  Pawns can be anyone depending on what you like.  I just thought of the pieces on white.  Or PLEASE PUT YOUR 2 CENTS WORTH IN!  There is so much in metal to talk about. New songs, bands, albums (the whole body of work printed under a specific name if you don't know) or why you like something.  I've tried to come up with stuff to talk about.  Think about it and post your thoughts.  One thing metalheads are good at is speaking their opinion.

I think it would be fun to have Danni Filth from Cradle of Filth as a Bishop.

A whole band as one piece?  How would they all fit?

they would all be in a giant robot that has 10,000 subwoofers built in Cool (so the whole world can hear their awesomeness)

Like the Borg!  That would rock!  Multiple metal bands playing at once.  But if it were 10,000 subsubwoofers would anyone be able to hear anyone or anything?

cristina scabbia is the lacuna coil chick if thats still open.

i would probably put mustaine and hetfield as opposing kings but thats just me.

in terms of old school vs new metal: (and i also would like to ask, where do we draw the line between old school and new?)

if this is just people and we call about 1990 the cutoff between old and new:
john petrucci as kingside rook, tom morello as quuenside rook; corey beaulieu as kingside knight, synyster gates as queenside knight; herman li and sam totman as bishops, doesnt matter which sides; nita strauss as queen (if you havent heard of her, you should definitely check her out. kill slowly is her band, she is currently sponsored (i cant think of the right word right now) by ibanez and dimarzio so she isnt just some random). all of these were hard picks because there are just too many people to pick from. the king is impossible for me because i dont really think theres been a standout performer.

maynard james keenan (tool, a perfect circle, and others) is a possibility for king - that guy is a genius - but he just doesnt have that 'kingly' presence to me

and sorry, as you can tell (or maybe not), im a guitarist

and if i do bands:

id have linkin park as pawns - they do deserve recognition; they had the highest selling album of either 2000 or 2001 and the third highest selling in the following year. and they did it with a metal album.

im a bit biased to prog and away from metalcore, but anyway:

dream theater as king, tool as queen
opeth kingside rook, and i cant think of a band that can match opeth as my queenside rook.
karnivool kingside knight, the butterfly effect queenside knight (both are australian bands that are worth checking out if you havent heard them. the butterfly effect is much less metally in their latest album, but they are undeniably metal in their earlier stuff)
trivium kingside bishop, devildriver queenside bishop

so theres my two cents

and if anyone on here also happens to be on ultimate-guitar, the link to my ug page is on my chess profile page

Actually I picked 1995 as the cutoff, but I appreciate your input. I am one who thinks that Hettfield and the boys changed their sound to be more commercial until Death Magnetic came out.  Just an opinion.  You could have any guy in Poison as the White Queen. They were a pretty band and many mistakenly thought they were women in the eighties.  With such quotes as "There were plenty of guys who wanted to boink the chicks in Poison".  Christina Scabbia is a talented singer as well as easy on the eye.  I don't get into Lacuna Coil.  I'm waiting for an all girl metal band to wear paper bags on their heads so people would like them for their talent, not just their looks.

All of the pawns should be duckwalking Anguses.

I think Marilyn Manson is deserving of Queen status, then again, I'm a big fan of the Antichrist Svperstar.  He's not exactly metal, but Bryan Erickson of Velvet Acid Christ is one of my favorites, and he lives here in Colorado like me, so he is a native.

The pawns?

Slipknot.  They could have each member as a pawn, and then some. :)

This board clearly isn't big enough - nobody's even mentioned Slayer or Motorhead yet!
