Shame Puchen isn't playing. The best way to promote chess here is to get NZ's best to play these sorts of tournies.

Damn, haven't got the title right for this thread and can't edit it atm.

There's Anthony Ker, Last years winner. Also Russel Dive is playing who is also highly rated.

I know, but Puchen is still the best player we have atm, aside from maybe Murray Chandler.

    Mikhail007

There really is no point in Puchen playing, he needs stronger opponents, the money isn't good enough and the is nil chance of a GM norm and Chandler could probably beat these guys blindfolded.

Just on a side note of national pride: Murray Chandler, our only Grandmaster has a plus record against Kasparov

    Here is Hans first win.

They played the French Defence: Exchange Variation.
19....h5? better was Qd7 or Rd8 to eye on the d5 sq. then not 20.Qxd5?? Bh2+ white lose the queen. 20.gxh5 ?? because of Qxh3 ! will cause a headache for white. Much better is 20.Qxd5. 20...Qf5 ? missed the Qxh3 ! 26...Qh5 from there black is making small mistake and white is taking the initiative. Black finally blundered on move 31...Rc6?? and the queen is gone 33.Ng5+ Black resigned.

All top four players has won thier games in all top four boards except between Shen and Gao is a draw.

1.e4 Nf6 playing the Alekine's Defence  13.Nxd7 ? Qxd7 giving Black's queen a better poistion. (13.Nd3 e5  14.Nb4 Be4)  16....Rfe8 ? (Now is the time to exchanged with the dark square bishops e.g. 16....Bxh6  17.Qxh6  Qe6 eyeing on the a2 and e2! ) 24.Bd3 ! working the g6. 27.f6+ Kf8 ?! (Now there is gonna be a King hunt as you will soon see, better was 27....Kg8  28.fxe7  Re8) 35....Qe3 ! an excellent move. 37...Qf4 could have use the rook instead e.g. 37... Rd7. 38.Rd1? white should have try to have a queens exchange by 38.Qc5.  39...Ke8?! 39....Qe2 ! is the winning move here, restricting white's movement. Eleven moves later the players agreed to a drawn.
