Which would you prefer to be?

I prefer White because It goes first but there are reasons why I like black.

See If I'm black I get to see what the opponent is up to. Therefor I get to prevent it. I know You can't see what they are doing on the first move but since your always after White then eventually you will get it and counter.

White is the easeir side to play as.

White gets the first move, which means first chance to claim territory and claim the offensive.  Then Black reacts.  If  a player can keep black reacting and not give thema  chance to get an offensive going, you will find you can dominate the game as white.

To compensate, in tournaments, the player with the black side gets to choose which clock to use and also a few other small perks to the game.  And each side alternates each game

true but I like the fact where you can see what the opponent is up to see what kind of layer he is. aggressive, defensive, carful, or noob

I would rather be white than black.  White gets to move first and so the black doesn't always get to do what he or she wants to do.  Black will always have to react to what white does so white gets more control of the game.

not alway because white could make a useless move.

then black gets to do what he/she/it wants then gets to dominate the game

nimzowitsch said something like it is black who has an advantage because he can capitalize on whites first mistake...say 1.e4...i love nimzo and im sure this was tounge in cheek humor, which is very funny, but then again he could be serious... he was a strange cat...anyway white has the advantage of the first move and should be able to dictate the course of the opening by establishing the nature of the game...ie open, semi-open or closed...even in black answers 1.e4 with 1....e5 the white can go semi-open or closed without having blacks permission...such as the kings indian attack

The thing I like about Black is that you don't have to play the Sicilian if you don't want to, but if your opponent plays e4, you can hit them with the Sicilian if you feel like it.
