    Morphy's Games of Chess

300 games by the greatest player of all time: 54 against such masters as Anderssen, Harrwitz, Mongredien, Bird, Paulsen and others; 52 of the best blindfold games; 52 games at odds; and 142 in consultation, informally, etc. Detailed annotations of games by such expert analysts as Sergeant, Steinitz, Anderssen and Morphy himself.

Paul Morphy and the Evolution of Chess Theory

This book, about the best chess player of the nineteenth century, analyzes Paul Morphy's games and positions in depth to reveal the essence of his style. The first collection in English of all 413 of Morphy's known games, the volume discusses other players of the period (Adolph Anderssen and Wilhelm Steinitz), Morphy's rare blunders and omissions, as well as selected endgames and openings. Also included are a 27-page essay on Morphy by Steinitz, and a series of letters between Alexander Alekhine and Eugene Znosko-Borovsky debating Morphy's chess style.

Here are books from the first part of 20th century and from the last part. The first was iussed by Philip W. Sergeant in 1915 in London and was a lot of revised editions. (My Sergeant book is from 1921). The second was iussed by Macon Shibut in 1993, in Yorklin, DE, USA. I also have this book. In the second there are all Morpy games, but there is bad the numbering of the games. 412 is the last, but one game there is twice, one is doubtful that played it Morphy. The number of knowed Morphy games is 410. And in this book a significant number of games there are without analyzing. My thumbnail picture is the front-page of an other Morphy book.

I have "Paul Morphy and the Golden Age of Chess", But was disappointed with the Lack of so many of Morphy's Games.

I HAVE to get "Paul Morphy and the Evolution of Chess Theory"!

Powells Books in Portland have an original 1St ed. by Caissa Editions for 80.00 and for 16.95 you can get the newer version from Dover Publications there.

Is there any differences between these two publishings?

I would like to have the 1st Edition, but would be disappointed if it didn't have the Letters or Essay.

I have PAUL MORPHY: A MODERN PERSPECTIVE by Valeri Beim. A very interesting and fair look at Paul's games. Here is a site. http://www.jeremysilman.com/book_reviews_jd/jd_morphy_a_modern_perspective.html
