When I first started playing chess again after a long layoff I came across this book, Weapons of Chess by Bruce Pandolfini, and it helped me to shake off alot of rust. Very good info.  I actually read about it on another chess site. There were several books listed. I wish I could remember the others.  I purchased another book on that list and I can't find it. Oh well.  Back to Weapons of Chess. It does an excellent job of explaining chess strategies. The book explains ideas such as pawn structures, isolated pawn. doubled pawns, things like these. And the author explains things without alot of notation. Has diagrams. Alot of good stuff. Really helps with the basics of chess.

Sounds like a book I'd like.  That notation can get me confused sometimes.

If you want to know what other books Bruce Pandolfini has authored then google him... Bruce Pandolfini chess books, the results brings up all the books currently for sale.  You can then purchase online or go to your local bookstore with the title name and his name or with the ISBN to purchase them.  Bruce is a great author for beginners to grandmasters; they are easy to understand and provide a wealth of knowledge.  I plan on reviewing some of his books beginning in May when I retire from my day job.    Suzann  aka craftysusie
