D&D vs Pathfinder

Given my recent experience with D&D 4e "Encounters" (pretty darn negative), and my reading through the rulebooks for Pathfinder RPG ("OMG, this is the game I hoped AD&D would evolve into!"), I was interested to see this website report that the upstart break-away Pathfinder (derived from D&D 3.5) was neck-and-neck with D&D in 2010 Q3! I love it. http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/18504.html

Any luck with finding a group to play Pathfinder Mike?

To be honest, I haven't *really* tried. Deep down, my fear is that I'd have to give up something else if I got into it (parenting and/or employment, for instance).  But just reading through the Core Rulebook and the Bestiary was good for the soul.

I get newsletters from Paizo that summarize the premises from many of the adventure modules created for Pathfinder, and man - it's amazing stuff.  Really underscores the creative bankruptcy of Wizards putting out 4e versions of Tomb of Horrors & The Keep on the Borderlands. Undecided

I'll have to look into Pathfinder. God I miss playing AD&D, I'll have to get in touch with my mate and see when he is free.

I admitt that I am a backward grumpy geezer but I still consider "The Fantasy Trip" to be the greatest system. Steve Jackson turned GURPs into a monster which was almost unplayable.

Hey guys, i just joined this group :-).  I am a huge pathfinder fan!  I have been in to relatively short campaigns.  I had a ranger in one and a witch in the other.  I think the pathfinder witch may be my favorite class from anthing i have ever played.

Hi Michael, welcome to the group. I've not played Pathfinder myself but everyone who has mentioned has praised it up. Unfortunately time always seems to be against me these days and I never seem to have enough to do all the things I need to, let alone those I want to.

Yeah.. I hear that... Witches, eh? I read about that class and it DID seem very cool. That's in the Advanced Players' Guide (or whatever it's called) right?

Pathfinder has come out with a starter box-set now too. I'm trying to convince myself that my 6-year-old would think that was a cool Xmas present. lol

Daddy knows Best, DeepGreene!! Go for it!

...and then help me to realize that it might be something for my 8yo daughter who has just started studying English!

Well you gotta start em young before they decide they are too "cool" for it.  And the misfortune/cackle combo is amazing.  Throw in slumber on top of that and it becomes fantastic!

Maybe my wife would prefer it rather than some jewellery for Christmas? What do  you reckon?

Maybe you can have it both ways...

I think I just googled (image search) "d20 jewellery" or "d20 necklace" :)

Actually, this isn't even that great compared to the image I was looking for: An awesome necklace made out of a group of red d20s spaced out on the chain, with matching d8 earrings!

Then I remembered that I had seen the picture in a book of "creative DIY craft/gift ideas" at a bookstore, and not online. It was pretty great though.. :)

It's the thought that counts... Oh, bless the internet - someone took a picture of the page of the book! (I like that it's clasped at the back with a d4.) Laughing

Well thanks guys. That is brilliant I should have guessed that someone had done it. Still not sure that she'd go for it but it is pretty cool. How about this one?
