Does anyone have any experience with the DC Chess League? You can find a bit on their website: www.dcchess.net. Seems like an ideal way for our little club to cross swords with the other clubs in the area. But is it too far away? We would probably have to play in Arlington. Is the requirement that we all have official ratings a problem? I am not sure if many of our top players have ratings, and it does look like only serious players participate. Would we be out of our league? Could we entice the stronger players to join us occasionally?
I suspect the biggest problem would be getting 6 players to go on a regular basis. Unless we had a lot of players who were interested, it would be a big time commitment ... maybe too big.
It would be a serious commitment (1 game a month in the DC area) , but if I we were to find enough players, we could rotate...
I might be persuaded to join in.
Arlington isn't so bad, dependent on the time of day.
I'm living in Florida now. I probably won't be back till ya'll are suffering from the humidity. Sounds fun but I'm such a party girl it would be a very difficult thing to commit too.
You would have to all be members of the US Chess federation as their games are all rated games. Additionally, you would be required to join one of the clubs - since Loudon County is a club, that might cover for that requirement.
they rotate event meetings - during a season, you would play one game against a team at your 'home-site' and one game away - at their location. Some of the teams are based in maryland near college Park. many are based at Arlington CC. Some in DC - at the US Chess Center for meetings.
my info is based on my memory of belonging to the Arlington CC from 1982 until 1998 - - - more than ten years ago when I last attended anything there = = = at Arlington CC where I played as a team member in the DC Chess league. more info available from mike atkins at matkins@cox.net I have been told that things have not changed much - which holds with the theory of inertia - a body in motion tends to continue that motion until impeded.
regards, ret.
I've played in that league before. Pretty decent players.
