So I have been playing the Sicilian for the past few years, and decided it was time for a change. So I jumped head first into the English.
The third game in my English Opening Experiment. In this game I get into an awkward tangle in the middle game , and then demonstrate the power of the bishop vs knight and pawns on both sides of the board in the end game. I'll be looking for my mistakes and especially how I could have handled the middle game better.
In game 4 of my English Opening Experiment, I find my first loss. I played a terrible uninspiring game in the last few moves.The lesson in this game is my poor understanding of passers.
Here we are at Game #5 on my English Opening Experiment. Another defeat! In this game I had a good pawn center and was picked apart like a vulture on a dead carcas. How could I have handled my big pawn center differently?
Game #6 and I finally get a win against an opponent of equal strength in a tough rollar coaster of a chess match. I had an ton of pressure on the king position, yet could not find a way to crack it. After the attack fell apart, I blundered the game away and nearly hit resign. SHOCKING! My opponent missed the win, and I held on for victory!
In Game 7, I was flat out beat. I saw a similar strategy in a previous game, where black brings his queen to a5 and together with his bishop on g7 take aim at c3. In this game, I fell all apart trying to figure it out.
So I win on time, but I really lost this game. It comes down to simple tactical blunders and general oversight. Basic Stuff...
