    Hi,

For those scratching their heads, Chessvideo.tv has a great collection of videos about SCID by a user there named Katar. First episode can be seen here (registration required, though free!).

Katar really does ease in the noobs, beginning with installation and then going onto explain how to get the best from the program.

(Disclaimer: I am not Katar, nor do I know him; I'm not affiliated with the above site - just thought y'all would be interested.)

    Enjoy!

One thing though, do you have the links for the other videos in the series? I cannot find them.

Here's #2 (I've not watched it yet!) - that's it so far I think. I might PM him and see if he's got any more planned.

Here's a SCID YouTube video.  Not as good as the ones on chessvideo.tv, but you might look at it:

This was a good overview of SCID. I picked up a few things while watching this. A little annoying was that he spent so much time entering his personal demonstrative game when he could have just loaded it but a good instructive video overall. I have always prefered SCID over ChessBase which is too high priced. The only advantage to ChessBase is the online database which used to be available for free and the capability to search by position and player name simultaneously.

The reason I was looking for SCID videos is that I've joined a club and the league kicks off in October, and I was looking for something to study with, the options were: 1) biting the bullet and going for either Chess Assistant 11 (cheap, but allegedly unstable)/Chessbase 11 (nearly €400!!!) or, 2) finding something to help me get the best out of SCID - thanks to those videos, I've saved myself at least the cost of CA11!

I can now use the money to buy something more instructive like a Chessbase DVD, or a book or whatever, which is great.

Greetings all.  This particular video qixel mentions is one that I made.  I was rather frustrated by the lack of SCID instruction when I was learning it and just wanted to make something simple to help others.  Katar's videos are superbly better than mine...Embarassed  however.   I learned a few things myself watching his. Great resource!

Anyhow, just wanted to say howdy to all the other SCID fans!  I love this software!

I have used this program for years and really like it.  I have a couple of videos on youtube:

If you want to get some games for your database, look at

(I have not downloaded that myself)
